IT help for North Shore homes and small businesses

I'm Gerti, a working system administrator. I take on-site calls in Wilmette, Evanston, Skokie, and Chicago for slow computers, unreliable WiFi, Microsoft 365, servers, and Azure. You pay for the visit. No contract, no monthly plan.

What I can help with

The everyday problems that stop you from working, and the business systems behind them.

At home or the front desk

  • Computer repair and setup

Slow or freezing PCs, blue screens, Windows errors, software problems, and setting up new computers.

  • WiFi and networking

Weak signal, dropped connections, router setup, and cleaning up a network that grew without a plan.

  • Printers

Printers that won't print, wireless printing, driver issues, and first-time setup.

  • Virus and malware removal

Cleaning up infected machines and closing the gaps that let it happen.

Business systems

  • Microsoft 365

Email setup, Outlook and OneDrive sync, Teams, SharePoint, account recovery, and migrations.

  • Azure

Virtual machines, storage, identity, configuration, and moving workloads to the cloud.

  • Server maintenance

Windows Server updates, monitoring, troubleshooting, and fixing slow or failing servers.

  • Security

Multi-factor sign-in, Microsoft Defender, and safer default settings across your devices.

  • Backup and recovery

Setting up backups that actually run, recovering lost data, and planning for the bad day.

Calls I get most often

  • My computer is slow or keeps freezing
  • The WiFi keeps dropping
  • The printer won't print
  • I can't sign in to Microsoft 365
  • My email stopped syncing
  • I'm getting a blue screen
  • We need a new computer set up
  • I think I have a virus
  • Our server won't finish updating
  • Something's wrong with our Azure VM

How a visit works

No intake forms or ticket queues. You talk to the person who'll do the work.

  1. Get in touch

Call, text, or email with what's going on. A rough description is fine.

  2. Pick a time

We set a visit for a weekday afternoon, evening, or weekend.

  3. I fix it on site

I work through the problem and explain what was wrong and what I changed.

  4. Pay for that visit

That's the whole arrangement. No contract, retainer, or monthly fee.

Questions people ask

Don't see yours? Ask me directly.

How does billing work?

You're billed for the visit. There's no contract, retainer, or monthly plan, so you only pay when something needs fixing.

What's the difference between on-demand IT support and managed IT services?

Managed IT services are an ongoing monthly contract with proactive monitoring. On-demand support means you call when something's wrong and pay for that visit only.

Do I need a full-time IT person for a small business?

Most businesses under 50 employees don't have enough day-to-day IT work to justify a full-time hire. On-demand support is usually more cost-effective, because you pay for help when something actually needs it.

Why is my office WiFi so slow?

Usually it's too many devices on one router, outdated equipment, interference from walls or other electronics, or an internet plan that's too small for the number of people using it. Moving the router or updating its firmware sometimes helps. If it keeps happening, the network setup is worth a closer look.

Why is Microsoft 365 not syncing?

Sync problems in OneDrive, Outlook, or SharePoint usually come from a lost connection, an expired sign-in, a file open in two places at once, or a OneDrive app that needs a restart. If a whole team has the same problem, it's usually permissions or licensing.

How often should a small business back up its data?

Automatically and daily for anything business-critical, with one copy kept away from the office, either in cloud storage or on an offsite drive.
